Lori Collins

Owner & President of SonicNet, Inc.

Lori Collins is the owner and president of SonicNet, Inc., a local wireless internet service provider. She brings a background in education and technology to the VCEDC board, along with a passion for youth and young adult initiatives, including entrepreneurship and remote working and learning.

Lori and her family moved permanently to the Phelps area in 2002 after spending summers at their lake home in Upper Michigan for several years. She has served on several non-profit boards both prior to that move and following it. Locally, she has served the Vilas County Youth Coalition and the UW-Extension Advisory Group. Currently, she is a member of the Northland Pines Schools' Technology Advisory Board and Nicolet College's IT Advisory Group. She loves to blend her passion for youth and education with the ever-changing technology field, particularly in how internet service is provided in very rural areas.

Lori holds a B.S. in English Education from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and has completed all but two courses towards an M.S. in Reading: Diagnosis and Remediation of Disorders from Georgia State University in Atlanta. For many years, Lori tutored young students in Ohio and then in Phelps and Northland Pines in reading. After founding SonicNet in 2007, Lori found that her background in education was important in informing customers and others about how the internet works and how it can be delivered in sparsely populated areas such as Vilas County.

Lori and her husband, Jeff, continue to live in Phelps while spending lots of time at their Michigan lake home. They are the parents of three 20-something adults: Evan, Libby and Reid.
