We recently had the opportunity to interview Katie Paremski, Owner/Operator Dipcutburn, to learn about the growth of their custom laser engraving and hydrographics/hydrodipping business.
Tell us about Dipcutburn and why it was important for you and your husband to start this business.
My husband, Erik, and I had been contemplating a laser engraving business for almost a year before we launched the business. We’re a young family with unique skill sets that includes engineering, design, and woodworking.
Several years ago, when I was a stay at home mom, I learned that the Vilas County EDC was offering a course in Eagle River on starting a new business. It was perfect timing. I attended the course and learned how to develop a business plan and all that encompasses starting a new business. This is how it all started.
Why was it important for you to have your business in Vilas County?
We wanted to keep our business local due to family and community ties. We have sales from all over the country but our favorite jobs are the ones for local businesses, individuals, and families.
What products and services do you offer?
We’re a family-owned laser engraving and hydrographics business. We offer all types of laser engraved products for drinkware like glasses and custom tumblers, cutting boards, customized home décor, maps, awards, large outdoor signs, and much more. Our new hydrographics or hydro dipping service, includes a wide variety of products from helmets to motorcycles and ATV/UTV/snowmobile parts. Hydrographic printing, also known as water transfer printing, allows patterns and designs to be applied to any shaped objects.
We have also worked on a few projects for newly built homes. This includes engraving for detailed railing projects, glass engravings for doors, and decorative wood doors.
We are a family of a budding hockey player and so we support the local hockey programs with coaches’ gifts, team promotional products and awards, and resale items to help support their fundraising programs.
In addition, we produce engraved products for some of the local realtors, creating custom home closing gifts including gift baskets, key chains, signs, and other fun things. With the addition of the hydrographic service, we are one of the only local businesses that offer this, and we are excited to continue to raise awareness about this new service.
Tell us about your expansion plans.
We do wish to continue to expand with the actual purchase of the buildings that we are currently leasing in Land O’ Lakes. This will enable us to offer a larger showroom and more workspace for our expanding projects.
How many customers do you serve each year, and has that been increasing?
We serve about 50-100 customers and we continue to grow every year. With the opening of our new showroom in Land O’ Lakes, we now have a physical location for clients and customers and as a result, we expect our clientele to continue to increase
Will you be hiring staff in the future?
Yes, we would like to get to the point where we are able to hire a few employees to keep up with our growing demand.
How do you give back to the community, and why is this important to you?
We give back to the community as often as we can. As I shared, we support the local hockey programs to design projects for fundraising programs, and we work with various local community groups to create unique awards and other items that are needed within their budget. This will grow as we continue to expand.
Congratulations Backwoods DCB!
