“This is our 10-year-old daughter Phoebe’s 3rd summer at Camp Marimeta for girls and I could not think of any place that I would ever be more comfortable sending her to. We live halfway across the country and feel so lucky that Camp Directors Jami and Nick Kasle have such a positive impact on our daughter,” said Rachel Good of Los Angeles.
Camp Marimeta, a private girls’ summer camp on 15 acres in Eagle River, is situated on beautiful Meta Lake, a private 200-acre lake where more than 225 girls from around the country come to Eagle River to attend a four- or eight-week session each summer. Campers hail from Illinois, California, Texas, Colorado, Florida - around the US and the globe. More than 100 counselors and staff, including J-1 Visa students, travel to Eagle River from Mexico, England and other places around the world for this significant summer opportunity for girls.
Since 1947 three families have operated Camp Marimeta. Nick and Jami Kasle took ownership in 2021. “We are passionate about giving the opportunity of camp where young girls can grow and develop into strong independent women,” said Jami.
Nick added, “Camp has been in our lives for as long as we can remember. Jami and I were young campers, met at camp, got married at camp, and now have dedicated our lives to ensuring that future generations can experience the community that we did from a young age.”
The high ratio of counselors to campers in 13 modern cabins introduce international cultures to US Campers.
“The lessons Phoebe learns in 8 weeks are so incredibly invaluable,” said Good. “She comes back more confident, happy, independent, and more resilient than when we dropped her off. Jami and Nick are so intentional and thoughtful in everything thing they plan and execute at camp.”
The day begins at 8 am with food, scheduled activities, fun, free time, snacks, taps and campfires. After meals, the senior cabin leaders lead campers in song, loud songs at that! Lights out at 9:30 pm.
At camp, friendship, not computers or phones, excites these young girls, ages 7 to 15. Fun activities occur on and in the water, the courts, and outdoor fields.
Camp Marimeta boasts a return rate of 75 percent plus each year. Many staffers, 40 percent, are former campers returning to care for young girls in practical, social, and emotional settings.
The Marimeta Mission Statement aims to “teach girls to communicate with each other, be empowered, take responsibility for their actions, grow from mistakes, become self-sufficient, and learn to problem solve. It is equally important at Camp Marimeta to be silly, get creative, be yourself and have carefree fun in such a special environment!”
The Campers themselves say it best.
"I love camp because it gives me some time to see new people from different cultures and different places. Making friends here is the best thing ever! Coming to Marimeta was the best thing I did!" --Ella, age 10, Miami, FL
"Camp brings me joy because everybody makes me feel welcome. Camp is my home. I don't have to be embarrassed about anything. At camp you can be whatever you want and nobody will judge you."--Emma, age 11, Deerfield, IL
